Masterchef Recap for The Wall
This week’s episode of Masterchef on Fox has the top eight competing in the wall challenge, where each pair must make an identical dish while separated by a wall. They can only communicate by shouting directions to each other.
As always, Chefs Gorson Ramsay, Tiffany Derry and Joe Bastainich are on hand to judge.
Since Dave and Jake won last week, they pick the teams. They are as follows: Dave and Heidi, Jake and Julia, Tkaiya and Basia and Foo and Peter.
Each dish must contain a protein, two sides and a sauce….all cooked within an hour.
Everyone begins to cook. As always, the judges offer commentary, advice and talk about each team’s dishes while the teams deal with stress and chaotic moments as the food is being prepared.
Before long, time is up and the teams must present their dishes to the judges.
Dave and Heidi: Their prosciutto wrapped pork tenderloin with mascarpone mushroom filling, sweet potato puree and blackberry sauce is pronounced risky, but incredible While there are minor differences in plating, it is overall similar to one another.
Jake and Julia: Their pan seared sea scallops with king oyster mushrooms, lemon caper orzo and almond sauce is delicious, but are very different in terms of plating and a bit inconsistent.
Basia and Tkaiya: Their pan seared salmon with curry fennel, purple cauliflower puree and scotch lemon caper beurre blanc is overcooked, under seasoned and burnt.
Foo and Peter: Their miso glazed salmon with cauliflower puree, asparagus, roasted mushrooms and lemongrass beurre blanc is missing sauce on Foo’s plate, causing it to lack acidity and his salmon is also fatty and has raw mushrooms. Peter’s dish, on the other hand, has a nice balance of flavor.
Dave and Heidi win the challenge, while Jake and Julia are in second place.
The judges decide to eliminate Foo and Tkaiya, even though they were on different teams.
Since Foo is eliminated, Asia-Pacific no longer has any chefs in its region.
More next week, stay tuned!
