Sad news for the world of Hollywood today. George Wendt, who is best known for playing the iconic role of Norm on Cheers, has died. He was 76 years old.

His cause of death was not revealed as of press time.

The actor, who also appeared on the Cheers spinoff Fraiser, is said to have died peacefully in his sleep at home, as per his publicist Melissa Nathan.

“George was a doting family man, a well-loved friend and confidant to all of those lucky enough to have known him,” she said in a statement to the media. “He will be missed forever. “

She also said that the family asks for privacy during this time

George earned six Emmy nominations for the role of Norm….which is best known for him entering the bar and being greeted cheerfully by the other patrons. He also played the role on Fraiser, The Tortellis and Wings

In addition to the aforementioned roles, George also appeared in Fancy Nancy, the George Wendt Show, Seinfeld, The Naked Truth, The Masked Singer and many more projects throughout his decades long career.
