Masterchef Recap for Global Feed
This week’s Masterchef on Fox has a Mystery Box theme. Nick DiGiovanni is on hand to help since the theme is viral recipes…..hence the tablets and phones under the boxes.
Chefs Gordon Ramsay, Tiffany Derry and Joe Bastianich are on hand to judge.
There is also no more immunity pin for the winner of the challenge.
The chefs must make a dish that are visually appealing, full of flavor and something that is easy for folks to make in their own kitchens….all while staying true to their own culture.
The winner will collaborate with Nick.
They all have one hour to cook.
As always, the judges and Nick go around and ask questions, offer advice and get an idea of what’s cooking.
Jake’s churro dish sounds delicious!
Basia makes a combination of a smash burger and pierogi, using Nick and Chef Gordon Ramsay’s recipes as models.
Tkaiya forgot the sugar in her mousse. She now must improvise with powdered sugar to make it work—she hopes!!!
Jaime forgot some components and worries about the reaction from the judges.
Top dishes:
Asia-Pacific:
Jaime: Pandan surprise coconut cup with pandan cake, coconut cream, coconut crumble, coconut pudding and coconut jelly.
The judges think the combination of flavors are delicious, the presentation is beautiful and has that WOW factor.
Europe:
Julia: Mount Enta Raviolo—squid ink pasta with ricotta, egg yolk and breadcrumb charcoal ash.
The judges think it looks professional and has star quality, while also being delicious.
Africa:
Dave: Seffa mefouna—shredded savory chicken with sweetened steamed vermicelli noodles.
The dish smells incredible, is unique and beautiful while making Nick want to go to Morocco.
The Americas:
Jake: Horchata crème brûlée with a churro bowl.
The judges pronounce it as exceptional with classic flavor while being visually appealing.
Winner:
Julia wins the challenge and collaboration.
Bottom Dishes:
Asia-Pacific:
Foo: Vietnamese sizzling crepe taco with marinated shrimp and pork, Mexican spices and Vietnamese herbs.
The dish is confusing, difficult to eat and a bit too much—and not virally appealing.
Africa:
Peter: Plantain funnel cake with flambeed plantains, puff puff coconut, Chantilly cream and strawberry coulis.
It was a good idea that was poorly executed and a bit too greasy.
The Americas:
Maria: Baby octopus rice with bell peppers, onions and garlic.
The octopus was overcooked and while the rice is good, the rest is underwhelming.
Maria is eliminated.
More next week….stay tuned!
