RJ Decker Recap for Burn the Boats

 

RJ Decker on ABC opens with RJ sitting with Emi’s dad Victor, saying that they plan on getting married and having a family…sarcastically. He says he knows Victor really wants to know what he plans on doing to him since he is the reason RJ went to jail.

Victor says he will get his criminal record expunged in exchange for leaving his family alone and threatens him with more jail time and rid of his CRO.

 

At the bar, Wish reads a newspaper and wonders if he should give a customer a free drink. RJ asks to talk to him privately and they discuss the offer from Victor. Wish says he has to take it for his own safety and freedom.

 

Wish is mad he left out of everything regarding the situation when he was only trying to help. He also thinks RJ is in love with Emi and that if he goes back to jail, he won’t get out.

 

This is the modern day ‘I’ll give you an offer you can’t refuse’ deal, I suppose.

 

RJ takes on a new case involving a reptile owner named Terrance. He and his client discuss coming back from mistakes and how Terrance’s father Curtis was killed and he wants RJ to find the killer…..since the police are writing him off since he was a former criminal.

 

RJ begins to question people at the reptile contest Curtis had entered when he had gotten killed. It leads him to Teddy Tran, who denies all involvement.

 

This reminds me of the spelling bee episode of Psych, but with snakes.

 

Teddy says he got pictures of Curtis’s body covered in sand….and wonders how this could of happened.

 

Emi calls someone to talk about something important.

 

Now RJ is at the golf course to question the GM Jeff. Curtis’s body was found there so they panicked and got the body off the property. As they look at where the body was found, RJ finds the weapon and calls the cops, much to Jeff’s chagrin.

 

Mel and her partner look into the case and she says she could kiss the person who found the weapon….not knowing it is RJ.

 

It is connected to a realtor named Fiona, who was also murdered. Curtis was also killed with an award she’d won. Both were killed due to blunt force trauma, with Fiona’s husband Lando the prime suspect……but the timeline doesn’t add up.

 

Lando is questioned about Fiona and wants to hug RJ for clearing his name. He gives them the name Denise, who is someone who worked with Fiona. He offers to help in any way he can so he can find out who killed his wife…..and based on his looks, run off to star in a new Hallmark movie.

 

Emi meets with her brother Lucas and tells him about how their father had Ray break into Catherine and Mel’s home. She is going to tell RJ the truth and alludes that she is falling in love.

 

The discuss their father and his toxic behavior and he tells Emi to tell her friend (since she never mentioned RJ’s name) to stay away from Victor as she goes off to his family.

 

RJ meets with Catherine, who is cooking penne alla vodka. They discuss the case and she agrees to play Nancy Drew.

Emi calls and he refuses to take the call, leaving Catherine confused.

 

Mel and Sofia come home, with the former taking RJ aside to look into Fiona’s email….where they infer she was having an affair with her kickboxing coach.

 

Shane, aka Hallmark Bad Guy, is questioned by Mel while RJ watches. He denies killing anyone since he was with a client that night. He tells Mel to question Gwen, the woman he was with and then refuses to say anything else.

I guess Mel accusing him of being a gigolo didn’t help her case?

 

Gwen is questioned and denies being with Shane like that….and refuses to help them out.

 

Emi goes to the bar to look for RJ and talks to Wish in her usual sassy manner…..while he tells her that RJ talked to Victor, all while making it clear he will protect his friend at all costs.

 

RJ talks to Lando about Fiona’s affair with Shane, while taking pictures of the house for the case. Lando thinks that the murder might have had something to do with Fiona not wanting to invest in Shane’s business, not necessarily the affair.

 

Emi gives Victor an offer he can’t refuse by resigning from her job with him and buying him out of the business if he leaves RJ alone.  She also brings up Lucas and says he is better off without Victor. This only serves to piss off Victor, causing Emi to say he better take the offer now because it won’t be offered again.

 

RJ talks to Terrance and shows him a timeline of the murders.

 

Victor talks to Ray to tell him that someone is about to be an accident.

 

Mel accosts Gwen and says she knows she is lying. Gwen finally admits she not only had an affair with Shane but she also knew about Fiona. She even helped get Fiona a divorce lawyer, but she never had the chance to use it.

 

RJ calls Mel to show him how he put the murder together Monk style…and says the killer was left-handed, just like Lando. They just can’t prove he killed both Curtis and Fiona.

 

Wish and RJ try to figure it out but they still can’t figure out the timeline since it is impossible for Lando to have killed both Fiona and Curtis, dispose of Curtis’s body and be back to meet with the first responders.

 

RJ once again looks at the pictures again and figures it out….leading them to Lando….who killed Fiona and then Curtis, who was killed thanks to Lando hitting the weapon with a golf club. He just had no idea he did it at the time since Curtis was just an innocent victim at the club,

 

Emi is out to dinner when Lucas calls, saying the boat is on fire…and he thinks it was a message from Victor. She rushes to meet RJ in the rain and they talk about his meeting Victor and how they might not be able to meet again. He says ‘screw your dad’ and they finally hook up.

 

In the afterglow portion of their night, she says she had no idea until the day before what Victor said to him and he admits he knows Victor was behind the robbery.

Emi then says Lucas was sent to steal his camera equipment two years ago, leading to RJ going to jail and now he will find out why.
