MeTV Celebrates Star Trek Anniversary

 

Weigel Broadcasting today announced its programming lineup for September to celebrate the 60th anniversary of Star Trek. The month-long celebration across MeTV, Heroes & Icons (H&I) and MeTV Toons includes a very special appearance by William Shatner on MeTV’s weekday morning series Toon In With Me. Weigel Broadcasting channels will also feature themed Star Trek programming on MeTV, a complete marathon of the original series on H&I, and a Star Trek: The Animated Series marathon on MeTV Toons.

William Shatner joins MeTV’s Toon In With Me on September 8th at 7am ET/PT for a special appearance with host Bill Leff and his cartoon-loving sidekick, Toony the Tuna, where he’ll discuss some of his current creative projects and reflect on the enduring legacy of Star Trek.

The celebration for the landmark series continues across several of Weigel Broadcasting’s television networks. H&I will present every episode of the original Star Trek TV series over six consecutive days beginning Sunday, September 6 at 11am ET/PT with “The Man Trap,” the series first broadcast episode. MeTV Toons pays tribute with six back-to-back episodes of Star Trek: The Animated Series on Saturday, September 5 from 1-4pm ET/PT, while MeTV spotlights themed late-night Star Trek programming every Saturday throughout September.

 

Originally premiering on NBC on September 8, 1966, Star Trek aired for three seasons before becoming one of television’s most enduring franchises through decades of syndication, spawning 11 television series, an animated series and 14 feature films. Created by Gene Roddenberry, the groundbreaking series inspired generations of fans with its optimistic vision of the future, unforgettable characters and timeless stories of exploration, diversity, courage and humanity. Six decades later, Star Trek remains a global cultural phenomenon, a cornerstone of science fiction entertainment, and one of the most influential franchises in television history.

 

The original Star Trek airs regularly on MeTV Saturday nights at 11pm ET/PT, and is a cornerstone of the H&I weeknight and Sunday primetime lineup with Star Trek (original series) airing at 8pm ET/PT, Star Trek: The Next Generation airing at 9pm ET/PT, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine airing at 10pm ET/PT, Star Trek: Voyager airing at 11pm ET/PT, and Star Trek: Enterprise airing at 12am ET/PT.
