The Amazing Race is one show I do not like to miss. I missed last week’s episode due to tornado warnings but did finally see it on the internet. The one thing that has bothered me about this season popped up again last week in the gleefulness of the couples who come in quickly. This season, the sense of camaraderie is gone!
Before you start yelling, I don’t mean this about all the teams. Some teams seem to get along well together and in some cases seem to share information well. And some actually seem to want to help out the others. One thing though has stood out from week 2 when I termed them the ugly Americans. The team of Carol and Brandy are intent on one thing – winning at any cost. They have snipped at other teams – especially the younger ones – and been gleeful in those eliminated. They were in it for the win at any cost! Let’s first look at some of their early instances of infamous actions. At one of the stops along week one or week two, they made sure that Caite and Brent and Jordan and Jeff had trouble getting the information needed on buses. In fact, they let others cut in front of those two couples so they knew they would be at the back of the pack. Brandy and Carol didn’t stop there. They found out that the cowboys found a way to beat them to the destination then tried to get information from them on how. Look you two. I said it then, I’ll repeat it now. You don’t share – they don’t have to share!
So, it didn’t really amaze me with this week’s episode that they (Brandy and Carol) cried long and hard about the unfairness of the U-turn, the dumbness of the move, and their elimination. I had to laugh when I saw Caite’s choice of using it so quickly. Remember, Caite and Brent and Jeff and Jordan were the ones Carol and Brandy aimed their “don’t tell them anything” at during week two. Carol and Brandy had been running the race and were what could be termed the typical “ugly Americans.” There were times when Brandy and Carol need a sign that said – “Out of my way – I’m in it for the win!” Brandy and Carol forgot one thing when they set off to see the world. They forgot that this was a competition and that every action gets a reaction. By playing dirty early on, Brandy and Carol earned a reputation of “take no prisoners”. We also do not know what has happened behind the scenes at the end of the race. Caite hinted at Brandy and Carol aiming barbs at her. I can honestly see that. The “Pit Stops” are times when teams should unwind and relax not for back biting and sniping. By the comments made in their exit interview, I have to ask? Is the shoe really on the other foot? Brandy and Carol called Caite dumb and only in the race for the fame. They constantly harped on Caite’s mistake during the “beauty” pageant. Yeah, so she made a mistake and it is up on YouTube but I have to think it’s because it was so public. If Caite had done that in general conversation, it wouldn’t have ended up on YouTube. Also Brandy and Carol are focused on the beauty aspect too much. Caite honestly is trying to redeem herself. Whether she succeeds will be in the eye of the viewer. Carol and Brandy have no idea that Caite and Brent and Louie and Mike were in agreement on who should be U-Turned. In fact, I don’t remember anyone shedding tears about this development. Also, if you have watched “Elimination Station” on the forum side, you have seen what happened when they called the other eliminated teams. Carol and Brandy were still mad and left their venom flow through the phone lines. I really didn’t see anyone that upset that they were gone except for the grandmother and granddaughter team. They wanted two women to win. The others seemed to have smiles on their faces! If I ever ran “The Amazing Race,” here are some rules I would live by.
