Vicki's Recap for April 6, 2010
by vic2rea

Tonight's episode of NBC's The Biggest Loser opens with our contestants returning to the house after the elimination.   They discuss how hard that elimination was and Melissa tell us, off camera, about how they are still not in game mode.  She explains that if they were, they would have sent Sam home because they could have easily beaten Stephanie.   Sam tells them that regardless of things that have happened, they have been a tight-knit group, but warns them not to be surprised if things happen to make them think otherwise.

The Immunity Challenge
Off to the gym, where Alison is waiting to reveal this week's challenge.  Alison tells them that nothing in the game ever comes easy but this week that could change, because someone in this room could win immunity with the simple push of a button.  She demonstrates by pressing the big red button... causing lights to flash and sirens to blare, prompting Daris to say that if that happened at home, it would be time to grab a mattress and jump into the tub.   The doors open to reveal the scale.  Alison explains that each of them will receive a card which will give them access to the scale anytime they want.  Each card tells them how much weight they have to lose.  The first to lose more than 2 percent of their body weight this week... but they only get one shot, if they fail, they don't get to try again and once someone wins, no one else gets to try.   She distributes the cards, then tells them when they are ready to weigh in, press the buzzer which will alert everyone, then they will insert their card to weigh in to find out if they have won immunity.  She departs saying that the game starts now.

Enter Bob and Jillian.  Andrea explains what the challenge is all about.  Jillian and Bob decide that they need to start working out if they want to get that prize of immunity.  Jillian begins her workouts with Sunshine and encourages her.  Melissa a Bob sit and have a talk.  Bob tells her to play the game, but not to lose sight about what the house is really all about.  Off camera Melissa talks about how if she keeps winning immunity it will keep snowballing till she is in the final four.

Dr. H stops by to talk with them about losing the 2 percent but doing it safely.  He talked about how they have to eat right to keep the metabolism high and burn fat.  Two days pass and no one has hit the button yet.  Workouts continue.  Sam wants to hit the button because he hates yellow lines... even the one on his shirt.  Koli tells him to step back from the podium.  Ashley and Andrea talk to each other about how tricky this one is.  The wonder when Melissa is going to do it.    Sunshine tells her dad she is at a crucial point and doesn't want to weigh in now.  While they are talking, Victoria hits the button and sets off the sirens.  She inserts her card, climbs the steps and gets on the scale which reveals an "X" - no win.  Day 3 arrives and it's time for a challenge.

The Challenge
Alison greets them at the swimming pool.  She tells them that they will have to carry weight from one end of the pool to the other.  She tells them that at the bottom of the pool are 1000 one-pound weights - 100 per player.  Their job is to bring up their weights, no more than two at a time, and put them on the scale.  The first person to get all 100 of their weights on the scale will win a trip for two, all expenses paid, 2 weeks at the Biggest Loser Resort at Fitness Ridge.  The loser will receive a one-pound disadvantage.  She tells them that when they have finished putting all their weights on the scale, they are free to help someone else, if the choose to do so.  Sunshine pulls an early lead, followed closely by Sam, then Victoria.  Alison remarks that Sunshine is an excellent swimmer.  After 30 minutes, Sunshine and Sam pass the halfway mark.  Sunshine is trying to hurry to she can help her dad.  Sunshine stay neck and neck and hit the 98 together.  Off they go for the final two weights... Sunshine returns first and goes to help her father.   Sam finishes and Koli tells Sam to go help O'Neal.  Victoria comes in third, Koli is fourth, Andrea is fifth, Ashley sixth, Daris seventh, O'Neal eighth.  Everyone goes to help Mike, hoping to put Melissa in last place.   It works.  Melissa is in last place and takes the one pound disadvantage.

Late at night, Koli and Sam sit in their room talking when they will hit the button.  Koli worries that Melissa will hit the button before them because she has the disadvantage and needs immunity.   Sam and Koli wait till everyone is asleep then go to the gym for a workout.  Melissa goes to bed, but not before telling us off camera that she is going to be up at 3, workout and hit the button.  Sure enough, at 3:12 am, she hits the gym for a workout.  Dawn breaks and the siren goes off.   Some are eating breakfast, some are still sleeping when the siren wails.  Our barely awake contestants make their way to the gym to find Sam standing by the button.  He inserts his card and walks to the scale.  Melissa vows if he doesn't get it, she is hitting the button next.   The scale reveals that Sam has lost 10 pounds which is 3.82% of his weight and he wins immunity!  Back to the house for breakfast and it's time for Jillian and Bob to arrive.  They find out that Sam won immunity.  Sunshine explains the challenge that she won.  Melissa tells them that she got the disadvantage because everyone helped other contestants retrieve their weights.  Bob tells us off camera that Melissa loves to play games, and this time the game came back and bit her.  He tells everyone that this means they all have to work harder because Sam has immunity and there are no more games.

Last Chance Workout
Bob gives Koli a workout stepping up and down with 165 pounds on his shoulders.  Jililan works with Daris with weights, and then on the treadmill.  Daris recalls how when he first got there, 3 1/2 miles on the treadmill seemed impossible.   Daris and Jilian move on to sparring.  Then, Jillian turns her attention to Melissa, then Victoria, Ashley... she seems to be so happy giving them all a turn.  On to a commercial and a quick update on Shay and Subway.   On return, we find Jillian and Sunshine having a quiet talk outside.  Jillian is concerned that Sunshine is joined at the hip with her father as everyone in her family is slender and she is hanging back to be like her father.  She tells her it is okay to live a parallel life with her father and step into her destiny.  Sunshine and O'Neal sit down for a talk.  She tells her dad she sees herself for the first time and believes now that she is a beautiful person and believes in herself for the first time.  She tells him that this only makes their bond stronger - she can now stand beside him, not under his shadow.  O'Neal tells us that for the first time in 24 years, today he stopped holding her.

Melissa and Andrea are below the yellow line.  When the go back tot he house to discuss the elimination, Andrea asks Melissa if she would mind leaving while she talks to them first.  Melissa leaves the room.  Andrea tells them that this week is the first time she realized that she wants to be in the final four.  She tells them that she needs to be here another week.  She tells them it is in their hands.  Melissa returns.  She says the question is why are you here.  She asks them if they want to be in the final four.  She says what is the one way to guarantee final four.  She tells them that she is their fairy godmother and will, week after week, be in the bottom two and they can pick off whoever is down there with her.  She tells them that as long as they stay above the yellow line, they will be in the final four because she cannot beat them.   She tells them it is not about friendship, not about emotions or relationships, it's about getting to the final four and the only argument she has to save herself, is she can't beat them...

The Elimination
Koli votes Melissa
O'Neal votes Melissa

Melissa pipes up and says that she thinks these are very poor choices, call it game play, call it what you will, if she were trying to get to final four, she would be getting rid of her biggest threat.  O'Neal shrugs.

Daris votes Melissa
Michael votes Melissa
Victoria votes Melissa

Melissa says last time it was like a bucket of cold water over her head.  She tells them the struggle at home is ridiculous but she now has Lance at home.  Alison tells her they look forward to seeing her at the finale.  Melissa gets up, pushes her chair under the table and leaves the room.  Nobody gets up to hug her, tell her goodbye or even looks her way as she leaves.

Melissa tells us she knows what is important and that is her husband and her children and she is happy to be going home to them today.   We see Melissa arriving home 24 hours later, greeted by Lance and her children.  Lance says Melissa looks more slender and healthier.  She says before coming to the Biggest Loser, their marriage was falling apart, but because of what they learned on the ranch, the marriage is safe and more solid than they ever have been.   Melissa says the next time we see her, she will be running a half marathon for her 40th birthday.

Six weeks later, Melissa and Lance are running a half marathon in New Orleans.  She says it's very important for them to finish this together - and they do in 3:49.   Melissa continues her journey toward a healthy lifestyle and marriage.  She plans to run a full marathon this summer.  And yes, she looks good!

Next Week:  Danny, last season's winner of the Biggest Loser, returns to inspire the contestants.  And, it looks like we'll finally see the mud wrestling we've heard about.  Hope you'll join us next Tuesday, April 13, 2010 at 8/7c for The Biggest Loser, only on NBC.
