RECAP FOR MARCH 14, 2010

Trump's popular reality show, CELEBRITY APPRENTICE kicked off its new season this week. The cast of 14 consisted of 7 men and 7 women. Trump immediately created teams according to gender. Each celebrity was participating on behalf of their favorite charity and all monies earned would go directly to the charity of the winning PM. The groups were to select a team name and the guys chose the Project Manager for the women's team and vice versa.

The men’s team selected Cindy Lauper as PM because they felt she was one of the stronger players, being a native New Yorker and the women selected Bret Michaels because they felt he was the weakest physically as he had only a few hours of sleep at the onset of the show.

Their task for this first episode was for each team to set up and run a diner. TEAM TENACITY chose the location at 62nd & Lexington and TEAM ROCK SOLID set up at 53rd & Madison Ave. Out of the gate, rocker, Bret Michaels showed his keen leadership abilities by deferring to Curtis Stone who is a professional chef & restaurateur. Cindy Lauper had a very different management style and immediately became more concerned with the creative side of the task and less with the management side.

The men went to the site of their diner and hit the ground running. There was a strong sense of cooperation and between Bret and Curtis positions were assigned and the men went in the directions of their strongest suits. Darryl Strawberry, Yankee baseball great, hit the phone and called in favors as did Olympic medalist, Michael Johnson. Several of the other team members did the same. Sinbad was the promo man and official sidewalk barker to draw people in. It was the opinion of Curtis to make high end foods at a steep price. Prepare less and earn more in donations this way. His menu idea was to create truffle burgers and truffle risotto for $250.00 a plate. A risk to be sure. Illinois politician, Rod Blagojevich did public service as head waiter.

The women’s team was quite chaotic at the start until Sharon Osborne began making calls to promote the event. Victoria Secret model, Selita Ebanks volunteered to cook and Maria Kanellis with the help of Summer Sanders assisted in the kitchen. Holly Robinson assigned herself to creating the menu and being the treasurer. Sharon and Cindy were servers and comedian, Carol Leiter worked the counter when she wasn’t outside drumming up business. Cindy determined pricing and felt it should be affordable for the average person at $20.00 a plate and for those who wanted to donate there was a special for $100.00. This team had the idea that the more they served the more money they would earn. Sharon did a spot on the radio the morning the diner opened and grabbed a nearby paparazzi and had him take promo photos of the team for the store front.

Both teams worked hard and in a spirit of cooperation. They never let down and in the end both PMs appeared satisfied with the work their teams had provided for the task. In the end the number of people served seemed higher for the women’s diner, but the heavy hitters with the big money seemed to be eating at the men’s place. In a fun twist Donald Trump called on last season’s winner, Joan Rivers to visit both diners and report to him on her level of satisfaction of each of food served. Whoever she selected would receive an additional $10,000.00 the earnings, which would be going to the winning PM’s charity.

In the end TEAM TENACITY collected $29,559.00. Heading up ROCK SOLID, Bret Michael was pleased to find out that his team earned $87,905.00. Although Joan Rivers preferred the food served at the women’s diner because it was served hot, the $10,000.00 bonus is added to ROCK SOLID’s win. To round it off Donald awarded AMERICAN DIABETES ASSOCIATION A GRAND TOTAL OF $100,000.00.

The delighted men’s team retired to the suite where they watched Trump needle the women until they finally threw someone under the bus. Cindy stood by her team members and refused to list anyone as a weak link. Wrestler, Maria Kanellis started by calling out Carol and then the rest of the team followed. Most were unaware of her talents as a producer and writer and in their hurry to dismiss anyone but loony, Cindy they offered up one of the women’s strongest players for firing, Carol Leifer. Donald took heed and fired Carol but because she has so much class before she left, she appealed to Donald in support of her charity, NORTH SHORE ANIMAL LEAGUE OF AMERICA and he personally donated $10,000.00.

Next week the women are at a disadvantage with only 6 members, but perhaps there will be a task that will truly utilize their talents. SUN. AT 9:00PM ON NBC.
