LOST: LOCKE THE GOOD AND BADLOST
LOCKE THE GOOD AND BAD
by LindaM

Okay, LOST gave us at least an explanation of what Locke has in the two storylines. While diverse and different, we did learn the following:

LOST - LOCKE1. Locke on the island is really dead and buried.
2. Jacob knew that a new “keeper of the island” was needed and that it would be one of the Losties.

Okay, let’s deal with black smoke Locke first. I’m going to call him Blocke here. Blocke is up to no good. Whlie Richard isn’t dead, he wouldn’t swear allegiance and follow Blocke either. That tells you something right there. Blocke knew that Richard had done things in his past which was Jacob related. Blocke still, even after destroying Jacob, will not get Richard to agree to follow him. In fact, Richard realizes the only safe place is the temple and tries to convince Sawyer to go there. If Blocke is evil, the temple then is good.

Blocke seems to have successfully recruited Sawyer to the dark side. Granted, that wasn’t too hard with Sawyer drunk and in a funk after losing Juliet. The fact that Sawyer has questions, though, is intriguing. When Richard told him to leave, you saw the hesitation. Then Sawyer decided to follow Blocke to see what was going on. Sawyer wanted answers. Well, we all got one tonight. Blocked explained the names in the cave (which included Sawyer, Jack, and the others still alive) as being ones that could potentially become the keeper of the island. Which leads to the question: Did Jacob know that Blackie would eventually kill him?

In the alternate world, the episode focused exclusively on Locke but with some intriguing additions. First, Locke loses his job for going to Australia and not attending the conference. Seems Locke took the company money to go down to a conference which he never attended but didn’t get to do his walk-about either. Leaving the building, he meets Hurley who owns the company Locke use to work for. Hurley and Locke talk, Hurley finds out what happens and gives Locke the name of an employment agency. Locke goes there and gets really annoyed with the lady asking the questions and asks for the supervisor. Guess who that is: our old friend Rose who has terminal cancer. She convinces Locke not to do the construction job which will only send him back to her but take the substitute teaching job. In that, you can see that Locke actually begins to feel good about himself. He had already started that move when he told his finance that he called Jack’s office and hung up. In the teacher’s lounge Locke meets Ben who is also a teacher.

So what do you make of last night’s developments. Post comments here or over at TVGrapevine in our LOST discussion area.
