The Amazing Race

CBS' The Amazing Race kicks off its 16th season tonight with host, Phil Keoghan and a diverse group of contestants, including recent Big Brother winner Jordan Lloyd, coybows, police detectives, siblings, married/ dating couples all of whom will race around the world to win $1,000,000.

The Amazing Race begins at dawn as a bus delivers eleven teams to the starting line at the edge of Los Angeles. The teams are introduced as they step off of the bus. Phil Keoghan greets them at the starting line and tells them they will begin by figuring out the way to travel to the airport using only public transportation. He tells them that the 1st 3 teams will receive tickets to the flight that leaves an hour before the other flight. He tells them to travel safe and tells them to go.

The teams race to their backpacks and discover they will be leaving LA to travel to Santiago, Chile.

The groups scatter a bit as they try to get to the airport. In the end, J&J , Monique/ Shawnee, and Adrian/ Dana are 1st to the airport to get the prized early tickets. It's a  funny moment when  Jordan races to be one of the first 3 teams to arrive at the counter and blurts out to the ticket issuers that she needs 2 tickets to China (instead of Chile).

The early 3 teams are excited until they hear the announcement that the early plane has a mechanical problem. As they continue to wait, the announcer states that the airplane will be replaced by another one. Adrian/ Dana decide to cash in their early tickets to be on the later flight .  The other 2 teams follow suit so all teams will be on the same flight. The cowboys decide to change their money so they won't have to do it later.

All teams are flying to Santiago, Chile. Once there, the teams must get a ride on one of the buses that travel the 60 miles to Valparaiso, which is known as  the San Francisco of South America. Once there, teams will have to make their way to Ascensor where they will find their next clue.

The cowboys changed their money into Brazilian currency which wasn't accepted in Chile so they had to go back and change their money again before they could get on a bus.

Road Block. One member of each team must balance on one cable suspended 120 ft in the air while holding onto another cable over their head and walk across it the length of a football field to receive their next clue. It's a bit windy and the ones doing the task are having varying difficulties in dealing with that wind and with their own fear, and with the physical demand of actually completing the task.

Caite is first to get across and she receives the next clue. Teams must now take a funicular down the mountain  where they will find their next clue.

Brandy is doing the challenge for her team. The cables are shaking wildly in response to her own shaking.

Dan loses his balance on the wire that he was standing on and he is now hanging by his harness. He reaches up and starts pulling himself hand over hand and he slides along faster than the others are walking across.

Jordan is making her way across - she admitted she was a little scared of heights, but she knew she was better than Jeff for this challenge because of his strong fear of heights.

Brandy is terrified as she starts praying out loud. The nerves are getting to her as she suddenly feels that she is going to vomit. She sits down on the cable and the urge passes and she manages to get back up to continues on her way.

Shawnee is walking across repeating "God is with me" over and over.

Dan gets across and Jordan gets across right behind him.

Brent and Caite ignore the directions in the clue and walk down the mountain in search  of the clue box. They find the box and get their next clue. The clue reads "It's time to paint the town".  Multi-colored homes are the calling card of the town. When the salt air degrades the paint, the city pays to have the homes restored. Racers must pick up 4 gals of paint, 2 brushes, and a ladder and find the house on Templeton St. that matches their paint. Once there, they will paint a portion of the house until the overseer says that it is satisfactory at which point they will receive their next clue.

Adrian is still struggling to get across. Shawnee makes it across.

Mike/ Louie arrive to do the cable.

The cowboys and Jody/ Shannon are still traveling toward the cable walk.

Jeff and Jordan are first to finish painting and receive the next clue. The clue directs them to travel on foot to Palacio Buburizza, a 90 year old chalet which is the pit stop for this leg of the race.

The last 2 teams arrive at the cable walk - Shannon and Cord

Adrian and Louie are making their way across the cable as Jody/ Shannon show up at the cable. Suddenly Adrian falls and his harness catches him. As he is hanging in the air, Mike (Louie's partner) looks on with concern.  Adrian is dead in the water and someone comes out from where the racers started from, hooked onto Adrian's harness and slides him back to the start of the cable.

Jordan and Jeff are Team #1 - as winners of this leg of the race, they receive a trip for 2 to Vancouver where they will go on a whale watch and try the sport of skeleton where they will ride down the track at the Whistler Sliding Center.

Brent and Caite arrive at the pit stop. Phil tells them they are the second team to arrive, but because they walked down the hill instead of taking the funicular  they have received a 30 minute penalty.

Dan and Jordan arrive at the house only to discover that they have dropped a brush. They turn around and start looking for the missing paint brush.

Steve and Allie are looking for the houses that need to be painted. Steve walks into a house being renovated and sees that the room they are in is being painted a similar color as they have so they start painting the inside of the house. The guys working on the renovations can't figure out what's going on.

The cowboys finish with the cable walk.

Shawnee and Monique arrive at the pit stop and are checked in as Team #2.

Allie finishes painting the wall and she asks for their clue and the guys just look at her.

Louie and Mike have blue paint that seems to match a concrete wall that has graffiti on it. They think they are supposed to be painting the graffiti on the wall. Mike convinces Louie this isn't right and they continue on looking for a house.

The cowboys check in as team #3.

Dan/ Jordan arrive in 4th place, but they received a 15 minute penalty for losing and not finding their paint brush.

Steve/ Allie and Joe/ Heidi arrive together as teams # 4 and 5.

Carol/ Brandy arrive as Team #6.

Brent/ Caite's penalty time is up and Phil checks them in as Team # 7. Caite tells the camera that she thinks they are doing a good job of proving themselves and they are technically Team #2.

Dan/ Jordan are allowed to check in as Team # 8 when their penalty runs out.

Louie/ Mike are stunned to hear they are Team # 9. They thought they would win every single leg. They say that won't happen again.

Shannon/ Jody arrive as Team #10.

Adrian takes another shot at trying to get across the cable. He is concentrating pretty hard.  Dana is proud of him for trying again even though he is hurting. Dana is shouting encouragement to him as he goes on. Adrian starts shaking as the effort takes its toll and then he falls again.  Adrian shouts to his wife that he tried and she says she knows. Dana says that she hopes this is a non-elimination week. The seen cuts to Dana and Adrian standing together. Phil has joined them at the challenge where he tells them that everyone else has checked in to the pit stop and that they are eliminated from the race.

Next week on The Amazing Race many of the teams close ranks and work together causing Jeff to feel that all of the teams are playing against him and Jordan.
