Survivor Rupert Answers Your Questions
Rupert Boneham from CBS' Survivor Pearl Islands and All Stars recently graciously agreed to answer some questions submitted by fans. Rupert, who has the distinction of being the only person to play Survivor and be voted by the fans to receive $1,000,000 talks about his work with kids, the 2 seasons in which he appeared, and he also weighs in on Survivor Samoa's Evil Russell.
TVGrapevine: Rupert, I have often wondered about how much direction you receive for production purposes. Are you directed where to sit at Tribal Council? How often did you do the "confessionals" where you are talking to us, the viewers? Are survivors allowed to say what's on their mind or are they asked specific questions during those "confessionals"? Rupert Boneham: There is very little interference in the game by the Producers. You sit and talk about whatever you want during confessionals...what they use is up to them. TVG: My husband wants to know where you get your hair cut? LOL Rupert: Tom Heyartz - Hair Artz 48th and Allisonville (317) 257-7186 TVG: But seriously, I would like to know if your life ever returned back to "normal" after the show? Rupert: My life has always been a little different. I still have the same focus as before survivor but the path has became wider. Rupert's Kids and helping others has been my focus for years. TVG: And btw, you have remained our (hubby and I) favorite Survivor contestant! TVG: I am curious if some cast members receive preferential treatment (ie.... given food/water extra clothes) Rupert: They give no supplies to one and not the other, in that way Survivor is very fair. TVG: Every season we see some idiots wearing suits, or high heels and dresses on the first episode... what gives.. do you not know you are headed to the island so are unsure what to wear? Rupert: They never tell you when you are going into the game. They lie and say you are going to a photo shoot or something, and then you are in the game TVG: How long does a tribal council last.. and is it just a round robin of questions or are you told what you can and can not say? Rupert: Tribal may last an hour or more you can say anything but what they use is up to them. TVG: Are you still involved with the youth project you mentioned while doing Survivor? Rupert: YES! Rupert's Kids.org TVG: Would you play the game again if asked? Rupert: I would play the game in a second if they asked TVG: When the tribes go to tribal council it shows them leaving their camp and the shows them arriving. Do you actually walk all the way or is transportation provided? Rupert: That is one of those survivor secrets we aren't' suppose to talk about. TVG(Comment after question): You remain my favorite Survivor of all time. I haven't seen anyone who tops you so far. TVG: Did you ever travel in your Rupert Mobil? Did you ever get your book out? Rupert: I toured in the Rupert Mobile for about a year. The Book - Just Being Me is out. TVG: Do you watch the TV show every week? Rupert: I am a Survivor junkie. Have been since the start TVG: Who is your favorite this season? Who was your all time favorite cast a way? Rupert: No one beats Rudy Boesch TVG: You are my very favorite cast member ever. I am so glad that you won a million and was able to go out and help children that need it. Rupert: I have ran a mentoring program since 1991. The million helped make it bigger....RupertsKids.org TVG: Do you think you will ever go on another All Stars? Rupert: I would even be a PRIZE if they would let me. You could win me for a few days and I will help make your life better. (Check out Survivor Israel on YouTube) TVG: You are my all time favorite!!! Do you keep in touch with many of the former castaways? From your season or other seasons? Rupert: A lot of us keep in touch and we even get to work together sometimes when people hire us for appearances. TVG: What was the hardest part about being on the island? Besides being away from your family. Rupert: Lack of water. Lack of food. Lack of sleep, the bugs eating you, the sun cooking you, the rain making you crazy. The PEOPLE TVG: Survivor Pearl Islands is the only edition in which survivors who had been eliminated were allowed to come back. As a survivor from that season, how did you feel about that? Rupert: It was not fair to let them come back into the game, but the game is not fair. TVG: How difficult was it physically and mentally to finish up Survivor Pearl Islands and then go straight into taping Survivor All-Stars? Rupert: I was the first to do back to back survivors. I felt like it was a good thing going back to back, my body did not have time to get use to comfort before returning TVG: Was there any time off between the taping of the 2 shows? Rupert: I had a few months between the two survivors TVG: Were any of the Survivors in All-Stars different from the way you had expected them to be? Rupert: It was just exciting to be able to go play survivor with all my favorites TVG: Hi Rupert! Thanks for answering our questions! You're my favorite Survivor from all of the seasons! How did your strategy differ between the 2 seasons you were on Survivor? Rupert: The first Survivor I went out to prove I was a better Survivor. The second time I went out to win Survivor TVG: Were you only allowed to take one luxury item with you? And what were some of the luxury items that were taken? It seems as if soap were not an option. Thanks! Rupert: No Personal Hygiene items are allowed. My luxury item was a tye-dye Flag both times I went to Survivor, but it never came out of my bag.
comment by Muffins: if there happens to be a comma missing in the statement above, the answer is the opposite of what it says: No, Personal Hygiene items are allowed TVG: If there was a chance to do Survivor again would you do it? Rupert: I even played on Survivor Israel. I am such a Survivor junkie...check it out on YouTube
TVG: What do you think of Foa Foa's Russell S' departure from the show? Rupert: Russell S. worked himself to the point of no return in the game. The game is very hard and your body is not ready for it. TVG: What are your thoughts about Galu's Russell H' game play? Rupert: Russell H. (aka Evil Russell) when you work at hurting others you usually end up hurting even yourself TVG: Do you have any insight on Survivor Samoa that you would like to share with us? Rupert: I wish I knew the inside story, but I am a fan watching it on CBS like everyone else TVG: You are my very favorite cast member ever. I am so glad that you won a million and was able to go out and help children that need it. Rupert: Please check out RupertsKids.org We are making a difference one kid at a time and have been since the early 90's TVG: Do you think you will ever go on another All Stars? Rupert: If CBS will let me play, I'm there. I would play every Survivor. TVG: Did you enjoy one of your seasons more than the other? Rupert: I loved playing both seasons but I had a better time in All-Stars. I knew the game better and my body was ready for the environment. I also made it ten days longer in All-Stars! Rupert: Aargh!!
