The Biggest Loser: Where Are They Now?The Biggest Loser
Where Are They Now?
by vic2rea

Over the past five years, hundreds of lives have changed, more than 18,200 pounds have been lost, thousands have been inspired and 206 morbidly obese Americans have made a commitment to change their lives on The Biggest Loser.   Step by step, pound by pound, they have not only changed their lives,  but they have inspired millions.  From the gym to the scale they faced incredible challenges both on campus and at home.  They have learned that The Biggest Loser isn't always about what you lose, it is also what you gain in your life.

Tonight NBC's Biggest Loser will take us across the nations to see how some of our favorites and not so favorites are doing, including the youngest, the oldest, the heaviest and the sickest.  They will be sharing secrets from the ranch, sharing tips from home and we'll see who has kept it off and who has gained it all back.

The Biggest Loser Where Are They Now?During the opening sequence, we see flashbacks of past seasons and then Bob and Jillian come out to welcome us to the show.  First up, is is Dr. Rob Huizenga who explains that the concept of The Biggest Loser was to see if  people could lose weight, naturally, without surgery and drugs, using only store-bought food and good hard work.  He talks about how nervous they all were during Season 1 because they were unsure if this could be done.  Dr. H tells us that bringing them on the campus, talking off their shirts, making them look at themselves, made America look at themselves.  He says we broke some of the denial of obesity and helped to take off the stigma of being fat and working out.

We are taken back to Jerry's arrival at the ranch, his collapse and subsequent visit with Dr H.  He says watching Jerry was like pulling someone back out of the grave and giving them back their life.  Jerry was 380 on arrival, has maintained his weight loss and looks good.  He says it is good to come back as a healthy patient to visit with Dr. H.  Jerry talks about how his life changed the day he was told he was 76 on the inside.  When he saw Colleen cry, it came to him that it was time to wake up.  He says he is on top of the mountain and it is a wonderful view.

Home Video:  Mallory Bray was 217 when she arrived on campus Season 5.  She is now a trainer at the gym.  She says she wants everyone to know that the Biggest Loser works and working on your health and body makes a big difference.  She shows off her mini skirt, but doesn't give us her current weight (don't worry, she's slim and trim).

Next up, Pete Thomas, Season 2.   Day one on the ranch he was 401 pounds (wow, things lookeds so different then - how quickly we forget).  Today he weighs 238 and says he feels sexy and strong as he maintains his weight.  He has created a 10 week course of classes called "Lose it Fast, Lose it Forever" which he teaches locally.

Drea, Season 1.  She was 215 and has maintained her weight at 160 pounds.  Drea is the Director of Healthworks Fitness Centers For Women and Children.  It is a nonprofit organization that works with inner city women who may be single mothers with no time or may not be able to afford a gym membership.  She surprises the women in her class with a visit from Chef Curtis Stone who makes a wonderful fennel and clam soup that comes in at just 247 calories!! (Recipe on NBC's Biggest Loser website)

Mark Kruger, Season 5.  He started at 285 and now weighs 185.  Jay, his partner started at 293 and today weighs 207.  We are shown video footage of them completing a marathan.  Both men look great!

Matt and Suzy, Season 2. She was 227 and is now 175, he was  339 pounds and now weighs 237 pounds. They have two children and are still in love.  They talk about their first impressions of each other sprinkled with flashbacks to Season 2.  Suzy and Matt have  gained some of their weight back, and intend continue to work at keeping the weight off so their children won't fall into the same trap.  Matt competed in the Kona Ironman.  He says it was tough, it was painful, but with the encouragement of family and firends, he made it through the course against the odds and missed the cutoff by a mere 3 minutes.  (Who cares!?!  Great Job Matt!!)

Nicole and Damien, Season 7 wanted to lose weight for a picture perfect wedding. Nicole arrived weighing 269 and now weighs 155.  Damien went from 381 to 253 pounds.  Nicole was able to try on every gown in the shop and was even able to fit into the store sample.  As we know, they had a beautiful wedding and Nicole was a stunning bride (Damien was smokin' in that the tux too)!  They are now fitness instructors at 24 Hour Fitness.

Nicole Michalik, Season 4 was 279 pounds and has maintained her weight since losing 105 pounds. She tells us that it's a big help to find something you love to do.  For her its good music, a hard workout and hot trainers.

Jerry Hayes, Season 7 arrived at 369 pounds.  He collapsed and was taken to the hospital on day 1.  He went on to beat all the younger people and take last season's At Home Prize of $100,000. He currently weighs 193 pounds. His message is that it’s never too late, he has been off his medication for 6 months now.  Estella didn't give any stats but is slim and trim as she runs with Jerry and their grandchildren and as they display the pants he wore arriving at the ranch.

Ron Morelli, Season 7 arrived at 430 and now weighs 251.   Mike arrived at 388 and has maintained his weight at 230.  One of the best surprises of the evening is Max!  He went to Fitness Ridge for the summer and has dropped from 405 pounds to 300!   Ron, Max and Mike are paid a visit at a Michigan State tailgate party by our own Jillian. She is thrilled at Max's weight loss!  True to herself, she begins to badger everyone about their eating habits at the tailgate party, in a fun way.  Congrats to the Morelli family - and keep up the good work Max - you touched our hearts and we're pulling for you!

Tara Costa, Season 7.  What can you say about someone who went above and beyond the norm to win more challenges than any player in Biggest Loser history. She arrived weighing 294 and currently weighs 165.  She is now challenging those around her.  Tara is planned and Health Fair and Run and had a turnout of over 500 people.

Jaron, Season 3's At Home winner. He arrived at 323 and now weighs 200 pounds. He has always dreamed of being a triathlete, now he is making it a reality.  He participated in the Beach2Battleship Iron Distance Triathlon which was run on November 7, 2009 and finished Overall Men: 225 in a field of 387.  (Full results on the Beach2Battleship website)

Julie Hadden, Season 4 arrived at 218 and now fluctuates between 128 and 135.  She was unable to have another chile due to her weight. She says that The Biggest Loser competition taught her she was worthy to live the live she dreamed of.  After the finale, she and her husband made the decision to adopt, and just a few weeks later, they got a beautiful son, Jackson.

Vicky Vilcan, Season 6. Calm, we must remain calm.  Vicky's gameplay overshadowed the reason she was at the ranch, making her one of the most disliked contestants ever.  Actually, when she slipped on Finale night most of us were hoping she would hit the floor.  Vicky arrived at 246 and now weighs 150.  Her message to those competing on the ranch - keep your mouth shut.  She admits that she is the most hated woman in America, but says she can't honestly blame them because had she been sitting at home, she would have hated herself, too.  She looks fantastic and seems to have mellowed a little, but then she's not in a competition, is she?

Filipe Fa and Sione, Season 7, are still determined to change the entire Tongan community. Filipe arrived at 364 and now weighs 242.   Sione arrived at 372 is now roughly 239. They have continued their weekly exercise class for the community.  They are also working hard at teaching their community to cook (and eat) healthier foods.  Filipe and Sione are still looking good!

Dan and Jackie Evans, Season 5.  Jackie arrived at 246 and now weighs 160.  Dan arrived at 310 and is now 194.  Jackie admits she always blamed herself for Dan's weight and it was heartbreaking.  Dan says if he has a dream and it's something he wants to do, he will conquer it.  Jackie loves watching Dan perform and living his dream.

Home video:  Michelle Aguilar, Season 6 winner, arrived at 242 and left weighing 132.  She has been working in Texas to get a bill passed to redefine physical education.  (wow, that was a short clip!)

Ali Vincent, Season 5.  Ali was the very first female winner of the Biggest Loser (in the US and arrived weighting 234.  She now weighs 125. Betty Sue arrived at 261 and now weighs 160 and boy does she look fantastic!  Ali thanks for mother for the experience on Biggest Loser because she was willing to put herself out there to ensure Ali would get to go.  Betty Sue is happy to have her own trainer - in her own family - yep, Ali.

Biggest Loser's only twins Bill and Jim Germanakos, Season 4.  Bill was 334 and is now 209.  Jim was 361 and is now 223.  Bill won the grand prize, while Jim won the At Home prize.  Bill is off all his medications.  Jim and Bill have become certified spinning instructors, and started a Twin Spin Class.

Bernie Salazar, Season 5.  Bernie was the At Home prize winner.  He arrived weighing 283 and now weighs 160.  As a teacher, he wants to be a motivater to all the people in his life.  Bernie plans on being on the forefront of reversing childhood obesity and has written a book for kids that will get them up and active.  We are treated to Bernie testing out his book in front of a first grade class and they seemed to be having a lot of fun.  Good Luck Bernie!

Many of the past contestants joined up to run the Detroit Half Marathon together.  Pete, Season 2, teamed up with Helen, Season 7 teamed up to throw a dinner party before the event.  In attendance were Mike and Ron, Stacey, Carla Triplett, Renee, Shellay and Amy, Coleen, Damien and Nicole.   The chef treats them to a dinner that is below 600 calories.  After the meal, he surprises them with a visit from Jillian who enters the room with "See?  I'm never far away!" She toasts them and calls them her partners in crime and tells them she is so proud of them.

Stacey, Season 6 was 221 and has maintained her weight at 156.  Carla, Season 7 arrived at 379 (then the heaviest woman ever) and now weighs 251.  Renee Wilson, Season 6 arrived at 267 and is now 175 (didn't recognize her for a minute there, she looks so beautiful) - remember, she is Michelle's mom.  Shellay and Amy, Season 6, don't give us their stats, but trust me, they don't look like they have gained an ounce!   Coleen, Season 6, doesn't give her stats either, but looks slim, trim and beautiful.  It was a special treat to watch the highlights of the Half Marathon.  They should be proud of themselves - way to represent!

Home video:  Phil and Parham, Season 6.  Phil arrived at 331 and now weighs 195.  Amy was 229 and is  now 137. They have stayed active, working out together every day.

Bob has the difficult task of confronting one of his favorites, Erik, Season 3 winner, who has put all the weight he lost, back on (their words not mine.  If my calculations are correct, Erik has gained 175 pounds back of the 214 pounds he lost.)  Erik arrived at 407 and won the finale at 193 pounds.  He now weighs 368.  Bob wants to know what is going on and Erik responds that he is used to making Bob feel proud, and so he is feeling a little uncomfortable telling him where he was at for fear of disappointing him.  Bob is not disappointed, he understands how hard it is - it's his job!  He knows it is a struggle and he wanted to see Erik to let him know it is going to be ok.  Bob tells him he has to find a balance, he can't do the extreme again, he must find a day-to-day life that will work for him.  Bob once again reassures him that it will be ok and they head to the gym where Erik normally does his workouts boxing.  Erik says he will lose the weight again and maintain it this time.  Bob invites Erik to the Season 9 Finale to weigh-in once again.

David Griffin, Season 4.  He arrived at the ranch weighing in at 368 pounds and now weighs 224, which is lower than his finale weight.  David has worked with 5 people who have past the 100 pound lost mark.  He says the most difficult step is the first one, and once you take it, it gets easier from there.

Neil, Season 4.  He arrived at 421 pounds and is now at 228 pounds. He has maintained his weight for two years and has now taken the next big step - marriage to Stephanie!   He was so afraid to fully commit to her when he didn't know if he would even make it to 30.  We are treated to their wedding video - Bob attended as did other past contestants.  Congratulations Neil and Stephanie!

We end the show with before and after pictures of our past contestants and finally, a kiss from the groom to his bride.  Great show!  Hope you will join us on Tuesday, for the Biggest Loser, at a special time, 9/8c where the final four's fate will be in the hands of America.

The Morelli segment was filmed at our tailgate. Have to say, it was a blast. In spite of being ill, Jillian was great. Very sociable and accommodating. The Morellis were great guests, too.
