Today’s entertainment news reads like a “Dancing with the Stars” hullabaloo. Let’s first deal with that, shall we? Julianne Hough has made her intention known. She will not return to “Dancing with the Stars” for the spring edition. Julianne is trying to get her country singing career going and she’s been talking with Taylor Swift and Kellie Pickler. In fact those two have taken her under their wing (so to speak). Julianne also has movies in the works including the remake of “Footloose”. The question really is: Will Julianne ever return to “Dancing with the Stars”. Also, will Derek follow his sister lead as he tries to make a go of it in the music world? Poor old Aaron Carter! Not only was he eliminated from the show but now he faces a bill from the IRS for $1,000,000. Seems some people just can’t win.
Don’t get me wrong. I think the judges vote was spot on on most of her dances. Joanna was a beautiful dancer. She had the poise and grace that did not make her an underdog in my book. The problem with Joanna is that her personality sometimes overwhelmed her style and that in the end hurt her with viewers. I fear it also may have been more. I’ll give some examples on why. 1. Joanna came across the week that Derek was sick as taking no responsibility for the mistakes. Joanna, dear, Mak stepped in to help the two of you out. Yes, you only had a short time to get accustomed to his style but the fault wasn’t only his. It takes two to do any dance and you didn’t quite hold your end up. Sure Mak was a substitute but never place the blame on your partner. Smile and accept it with grace. And if you have an opinion to offer, do it off camera. 2. Joanna pouted during the elimination shows if she wasn't saved first. Even if you are worried, you don’t let your emotions show. Facial expressions give away so much about a person’s character. 3. Joanna took the praise but didn’t seem to share. She listened but very rarely did she compliment Derek. When she did, it seemed to be in response to the judges. 4. Originality – yes Derek did some amazing choreography for her but sometimes she came across as a doll. 5. Press hurts! TMZ broke at least two stories about Joanna in the last few weeks that didn’t reflect well on her past. And before you start screaming at me about judging her, let me say it didn’t affect my opinion about her at all. The Bible-belt though may have had a different opinion and seeing Heff prominently in the audience Monday night added fuel to their fire. 6. The constant praise by the judges. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. If the judges like you too much and praise you too often, it will hurt you with viewers. I know Mya has gotten as much praise and still is in it, but Mya has a sense of humbleness about her. She is liked despite the judges. So who will win. I’m sure Len would say Mya had the competition beat. But Len, Bruno and Carrie Ann should stand by and look at what happened this week and offer less praise. Could their praise affect Mya. Only time will tell!
