CBS’ The Amazing Race continues Sunday night as teams race from The Netherlands to Sweden. Pinkie and the Brain AKA Gary and Matt get lost again while driving ... again. The detour for this leg of The Amazing Race involves deciding between experiencing a wild ride at an amusement park with a mind-numbing drop and going to a detonation area to blow up some dynamite. Only five teams Remain. For the roadblock, TAR returns to the roadblock in Stockholm, Sweden from season 6, leg 3 where Lena spent over 8 hours trying to find a clue in a hay roll. Host Phil Keoghan wound up traveling to the hay field after dark where Lena was still looking for a clue after having searched through more than 50 rolls of hay. Phil regretted having to eliminate Lena and team mate Kristy after such a valiant effort. Will Sunday’s roadblock be just as memorable? And can Gary and Matt get a good set of directions before they are eliminated? Catch the drama on Sunday to find out. This past week finally saw the elimination of poker players Maria and Tiffany. The girls have received the “most hated” team title from many, and yet I found Lance to be much more objectionable. While I didn’t hate them, I also didn’t like them. I understand that they lied after seeing how teams treated Romber, whom fellow racers had felt didn’t need the money - and honestly, I didn’t object to that. For me, it felt as though they really didn’t have the spirit or desire to run the race the way it was meant to be run and experienced. They never put all of their chips in and went for broke. What were they waiting for? What did they have to lose? That’s the question I would ask in an interview – exactly how good of a hand were they waiting to be dealt before they joined in? And now more on their elimination…Tiffany and Maria were unable to complete either of the detour challenges and we saw Phil come out to the Farmers Game to speak with them. As I commented in the recap for episode 7, we did not actually see Phil tell them that they were eliminated. Here’s the rest of the story… beyond all reason, the girls almost got lucky again. Twice previously they were the final team to arrive at the pit stop and yet escape elimination (once because of a non-elimination leg and once because of Justin and Zev’s missing passport) Even though they were in last place, last week’s episode was another non-elimination leg! HOWEVER, because they were unable to finish the detour, they incurred a 24 hour penalty (roadblocks only incur a 4 hour penalty). That penalty wound up being more than they could overcome. The most recent edition of CBS’ Elimination Station video clip shows Tiffany and Maria as being the next team to be eliminated. I suspect the other teams finished within the 24 hour period making it impossible for them to catch up. In any case, be sure to watch Sunday’s episode of The Amazing Race on CBS after 60 Minutes to see the most challenging task that racers have ever faced. Video Below - Elimination Station and Preview
