Trista Rehn Sutter is best known for her appearances on The Bachelor and Bachelorette. She and her husband Ryan were the first couple in the franchise’s history to get married and start a family. (They have two children, a son named Max who is two and a daughter Blakesley who is six months) Recently, Trista was nice enough to talk to me about her experiences on the show, whether or not she would go back on Dancing With The Stars and what the future holds for her and her family. WHY SHE CHOSE TO GO ON THE BACHELOR(ETTE) Trista told me that she initially went on The Bachelor for a “fun and exciting experience.” After the show ended, she was approached by the producers about appearing on the first season of The Bachelorette, where she would be the one looking for love. She said yes because this time she had “first hand knowledge about the power of the network and producers in finding me a man.” She was glad she took a chance and that she got to meet men she may not have met otherwise. THE EXPERIENCE Throughout her time on The Bachelorette, Trista had hopes of meeting her Prince Charming, but until she truly got to know Ryan, she wasn’t sure that this would happen. In fact, she was unable to even tell him how she felt until the night they got engaged. This was very hard on the both of them—so hard in fact—that Ryan even considered leaving the show. Trista said that is her one regret—and wishes there was a way to take that pain away. AFTER THE FINAL ROSE. BEING THE MOST SUCCESSFUL REALITY TV COUPLE When I asked Trista about what it was like being one of the only successful reality TV couples, she told me that it is “not something they think about.” They are “not in their marriage to prove anyone wrong or that reality show dating can work. We are just hopeful that others will find the happiness we have.” As for their feelings on why they are such a successful couple, it is something they still don’t have an answer for—they just say that commitment, love, enjoying each others company and living away from Hollywood plays a role in it and that they consider their marriage an everyday American one, with the same ups and downs everyone else has. THE FUTURE As for whether or not they will go back into reality TV, Trista says it will depend on schedules and timing, but there will never be a show with cameras on them 24/7. If they did choose to do a show, it would have to be non intrusive to their children Max (2) and Blakesley (6 months) They also look forward to building a green home (see www.vailgreenhome.com for details) and having a happy home life. Trista would also love another chance to compete on Dancing With The Stars and just recently finished blogging for E! about this past season of The Bachelorette. Ryan is currently training to run in the NYC marathon for Ethan Zohn’s (Survivor Africa)charity Grassroot Soccer. His goal is to reach $5,000 for the charity. The event will take place on November 1st. If you are interested in helping Ethan and Ryan out, please visit www.grassrootsoccer.org/marathon and click on Ryan's picture to donate. In addition, both Trista and Ryan are helping out a local school’s fundraiser, which is open to everyone. Prizes include a home in Vail and various cash prizes.
