Survivor Tocantins - Coach

Survivor Tocantins
Recap for April 2

This week on Survivor tribes realize that the game is likely to be more intense as the numbers dwindle.  Sydney realizes that as the tribe winnows down, the men are more likely to stick together and let her go.  The men feel that she is attractive and want to hang onto their eye candy.

On Timbira there is a conflict over the beans because Coach likes them soft, while the others like them a bit firmer.  A storm is rolling in and the additional time will mean that the beans won't be ready. Coach makes light of it, but most of the beans are burnt to the pot. Coach doesn't stick around in the rain to tend them which makes the rest of the group irritated. The tribe feels that he is selfish in some of his moves, and speak out about it. Coach takes responsibility for the misstep and laughs it off.

On Jalapao, Taj tells Stephen that she wants to tell JT that she has the idol. Stephen wants to control the information between her and JT so that he stays in the mix. Taj explains that she only wants to tell him about the idol, not about her alliance with Brendan.

Reward challengeThe reward challenge is for a relaxing picnic by a waterfall with a complete barbeque, complete with fixings. The challenge is to build a barricade in the opposing tribes sty. They have five minutes to complete a brricade that is as inpenitratable as possible. The tribes then have ten minutes to get as many ceramic pigs through the barricade as possible. The pigs must be tossed past whatever barricade the opposing tribe has constructed. Timbira has gotten five pigs to Jalapao's three, and Timbira maintains their lead at 8-6. Timbira begins to fall apart and the tribes are tied at 8-8.  Timbira takes the lead and then loses it to Jalapao who is now 12-9. Timbira brings it back to 12-12 at the one minute point. Timbira takes the lead again and it ties again at the 30 sec point. With time running out it is 13-13.  At the finish, Timbira wins reward with 14 pigs in the sty. They send Joe from Jalapao and he chooses Erin from Timbira. This means she will miss the barbeque, the waterfall, and the rest of the picnic. Joe feels that his pick is a strategic move because he is looking for someone who might flip at the merge.

Timbira goes on their picnic. The waterfall is lush and full of food with watermelon and a cooler of drinks. They build huge hamburgers with onions that are so huge that they can't fit them into their mouths.  Sated, they move to the waterfall where they have air rafts and pool toys. They spend their time enjoying beer and jumping off rocks into the waterfall pool.

On Exile Island, Joe picks an urn and Erin gets the one with the clue. Erin sees that the idol is back at camp and figures that there must be two, so there is no harm bringing Joe into it. Erin hesitates to share the clue with him. Erin tells him that the idol is back at camp and reads him the clue. Joe hugs Erin and says that this can be a huge alliance that will rival anything back at camp. Taj and Stephen decide that they have to make a fake idol to put in the tree mail so that it will throw Joe off from thinking that Taj already has the idol.  She retrieves the idol from Stephen's bag to copy it and puts it back on top in his bag. JT goes looking for fishing gear and goes into Stephen's bag, and locates the idol instead. He tells Stephen that he found it and Stephen tells Taj that JT found it. Taj tells JT and brings him into the alliance, assuring him that if he needs it, it will be there for him.

Immunity ChallengeThe Survivor castaways return from Exile for the immunity challenge. This is a puzzle challenge. Debbie sits out. The tribes must shoot a slingshot to break tiles which will reveal tiles behind them. As Tyson breaks the first tile, the second is revealed and the first puzzle bag is released. Jalapao gets their first tile when JT breaks it. Sand releases from a bag to slowly show a second tile which must be broken to release the second bag. Timbira  gets their third bag and goes to work on the puzzle which can only be solved by two tribe members. JT continues to hit at the third tile and finally he gets sand moving faster, which releases the third bag. Both tribes are working on the puzzle, but Timbira is ahead. Jalapao works hard to pick up the pace but Timbira thinks that they have it. They do and they win immunity. JT feels badly that his tribe didn't win. Jalapao has a date with Jeff Probst tonight for tribal council. Sydney is concerned that she will be leaving in spite of reassurances from the men on the tribe that she is safe.

Joe checks tree mail at the camp and discovers Taj's mock idol. He thinks it is the real one and that he is safe. Taj is marked to go by Sydney, but Taj feels that she has JT and Stephen to keep her safe. JT feels that it is also his idol and there is no way he can vote it out of his game. Sydney is looking on from shore when the men get in the water to chat. Joe finds out that they want to keep Taj. Joe is surprised and says that he can't be onboard with them when they say that they want to keep Taj and tells them that he gave her his word to keep her to the merge. Privately he feels that he might make a point by giving it to Sydney. JT and Stephen talk about the idol and how it is now in Stephen's possession. If they take out Taj, they will still have the idol with them. The conversation is left unfinished for the audience as the tribe goes to tribal council.

Jeff asks how much the vote tonight will focus on the merge and Joe says that this vote will hinge on trust. Taj is asked about her relationship with Brendan from the other tribe and she says that her role could be to use that relationship to get them to flip. Sydney says that she has no relationship with the other tribe and her strength is loyality to her tribe.

Sydney BanishedThe votes:
Sydney, Taj, Taj, Sydney, Sydney. Sydney is the sixth person voted out of Survivor Tocantins. She brings her torch and leaves quietly.  There is no joy from the others when she leaves. Jeff reminds them that if they do merge down two members, they have their work cut out for them. With that, he sends the survivors back to camp.

Next time on Survivor:

The two tribes merge and Timbira feels that they will vote them off one by one.

Sydney's last words:

She feels her tribe is in poor shape going to the merge and wonders if Taj will use the relationships she has made. She feels that just getting the chance to compete on Survivor Tocantins is a blessing and she enjoyed the experience.
