American Idol Lackluster Round Two
After last night's American Idol performances (ranging from lackluster to mediocre), who can we predict who's going through? We know Allison Iraheta's great, and Adam Lambert is probably a shoe-in even though I personally don't dig him at all. This season of Fox' American Idol still has a ways to go to round out the talent. Let's see what happens, shall we?
First there are montages of how the contestants got to the semi-finals.. Blablabla - we know!!! Then we go into the group number, which is is "Closer" by Ne-Yo. This is a MUCH better choice than last week's Jason Mraz-turbation.. Nick/Norman is toned down, Jeanine's short shorts bring much unneeded tranny-ness, and Mishavonna looks even stiffer than last night. I am so glad there's only one of these semi-final group performances left - watching a bunch of grown people grapevining across a mini-stage is cringeworthy. The montage of last night's performances doesn't change my mind about any of the contestants. Allison is the first to be called. Then Seacrest tells her to step aside. Then he asks Jesse to join Allison. Then Matt joins them. Ryan asks Randy who he thinks should make it, and Randy says Allison. OBVIOUSLY. She sings her awesome song again and her family is superhappy. Now we have Megan and Kris up against each other. Then Ryan calls Jeanine and Matt (poor Matt). Jeanine and Matt are eliminated (ughhhhh, pleeease bring him back on a wild card, and by "him" I do mean Matt and not He-nine)!!! Ryan asks for Kara's thoughts, and Simon cuts into her. There is some REALLY bad tension coming from the judges. Oy vey! Maybe the "new judge" thing is finally getting to everyone. Maybe Paula called it with her anti-fourth judge comments and rumors of not renewing her contract next year...
Anyway, back to the elimination. It's...KRIS?!?!?!?! Oh HECK NO! I didn't like Megan's performance either, but Kris?! There are just too many teeny boppers at home voting for the pretty boy. There's no doubt in my mind he'll be one of the first eliminated once they hit the big stage. He sings his Michael Jackson again. It's sliiightly better because he's so freaking happy, but it's still not that great in my opinion. Now that we know two of the three finalists, we see an ultra-montage of all Idols past, including some of the crazy/bad auditions. The former AI contestant performing tonight is Brooke White. She's as pretty as ever, and it's nice to hear her new single "Hold Up My Heart" on piano (not keyboard, thank God). The song's cute, but I don't really think it's going to hit big or anything. Alright, now we see Misvovanna, Jasmine and Kai being eliminated. So it's... Nick/Norman v. Adam - this could actually be a close one, but I'm sure it'll be Adam. And...IT'S ADAM! No doubt Nick/Norman will get some wild card time. Adam does his completely over-the-top Rolling Stones song and then we see a montage of Group Three doing their happy dances: Arianna Afsar Felicia Barton Kendall Beard Kristen McNamara Lil Rounds Taylor Vaifanua Ju'Not Joyner Scott MacIntyre Nathaniel Marshall Jorge Nuñez Von Smith Alex Wagner-Trugman
The happy dances are usually stupid and ignorable, but my jaw dropped when Scott MacIntyre got down with his CANE - oh God, it was my favorite moment from this season, period! My predictions for American Idol top three next week: Lil Rounds, Scott MacIntyre, and Von Smith. I love Lil, Scott is an obvious shoe-in for many reason, and even though I don't like Von, he has a HUUUGE fan following. I'm also looking forward to seeing Kristen McNamara (for all the drama, she actually is quite a good singer) and Jorge Nunez. Hopefully Group Three will be better than Group Two, but I really think all the majority of the talent was stacked in Group One.... Til next time!
