Game Of Thrones: Review For April 1, 2012Game Of Thrones
Review For April 1, 2012
By Bonnie Dedire
The long awaited return of the hit HBO series Game of Thronesis back and there are definitely alot more twists and turns around the bend, although most fans are shocked and confounded by the untimely death of one of the show's central characters, Ned Stark, but this epic show is definitely far from over.

"The North Remembers" is intriguing from start to finish. Season 2 begins with the merciless and barbaric King Joffrey and the timid and reluctant Sansa by his side--still shocked by the loss of her father (whom Joffrey had executed), Sansa has no choice but to become a willing and devoted slave to her king, though she attempts subtly and without much success to influence his decisions without stepping on his toes.

Joffrey is most likely one of the most heinous of the bunch, but it doesn't help that his mother Cersei has taught him that he is entitled to anything and any form of behavior (this will come back to her later in the ep) when a drunk and careless knight is brought to him who wants to drink--he forces him to drink wine through a funnel, but Sansa suggests that instead of Joffrey's victim, he should be his fool, her way of attempting to spare at least one person from an act of senseless violence. It seems as though Sansa is stuck between a rock and a hard place, with her mother in hiding and her younger sister missing, but tough sister Arya nowhere to be found. Admittedly, I was kind of sad when she didn't show up in this episode, because I found her to be a strong and influential presence all throughout season one. Hopefully Arya will return in the upcoming episodes.

Tyrion Lannister arrives soon after and it is to be discovered that he is now taking a new role in the kingdom, much to his sister Cersei's lament. Tyrion arrives at the small council and announces that their father has now named him hand of the king (temporarily).  He reminds his sister that she has created a bit of a mess, by allowing Arya to run wild and not protecting the household, and jokes about how she must feel that she will now be the one who is known as the "disappointing child". If anything, it seems as though Tyrion will have a much greater presence in this season, and he will still be as steadfast and stubborn as he was previously. I like the fact that Tyrion is going to go from a witty annoyance to someone with alot of pull in the kingdom.

Petyr "Littlefinger" Baelish has discovered Queen Cersei's shameful secret and does not hesitate to mention this to her while her guards surround her. She hires Littlefinger to find and seize the wayward Arya, but when he mentions that she should cease and desist the activities going on between herself and her brother Jaime, who she is having an incestuous relationship with, Cersei immediately orders her guards to capture him and slit his throat--surprisingly when the guards are about to guarantee Littlefinger's demise, Cersei decides to spare him, but not without demanding that he be the one who finds and brings Arya back--for good.

The bastard Jon Snow goes to visit Craster with the rest of the night watch and discovers his shocking and unbelievable lifestyle--Snow is dumbfounded by how Craster conducts his life, especially his love life. When Snow and his compatriates arrive at Craster's home, they are surprised to find a number of girls working at the home--Craster reminds all the men that they are absolutely not permitted to touch the girls, because they are all his daughters AND his wives. Yes, Craster is a creep and Snow is very very alarmed by it, "what does he do with the boys?", he wonders. Snow cannot handle how he conducts his business, which causes a potential blowup between him and Craster and although they will be able to have a "roof" for the night because they are wary, Snow gets a stern warning not to touch any of the girls during his stay.

Daenerys Targaryan is left wandering with her baby dragon, but she and her minions find themselves in quite the predicament, if she goes north she will be murdered and they will steal her dragons and the same with everywhere else, she doesn't look as clean cut as she used to be, her appearance soiled by all of her travelling and also by all of the losses she has suffered in season one, first her brother -an execution that she authorized, but still and then the death of her husband, the thing that continually stands out about her is her strength and she seems to be pretty resilient.

This particular episode is incredibly hard to watch, because the end of the episode is so brutal and merciless, I mean, GOT fans are usually not spared violence and blood, but the end of this season's episode takes the cake for utter barbarism and evil. The episode concludes with the murder of one of Lord Baratheon's bastards in the local brothel, the scene is hard to watch and is perhaps, arguably crossing the line, even for those who are used to these types of things happening on the show. Is this a foreshadowing of more terrible things to come?  Tune in next Sunday to find out!
