Susan Holmes is perhaps one of the most beautiful and talented celebrities today. Not only has she worked with many of the world's top designers as a fashion model, but she also is one herself. Susan has her own line of swimsuits (found on www.susanholmes.net) and hopes to come out with more lines in the future.
If that weren't exciting enough Susan Holmes, who is married to Duff McKagan from Guns and Roses, is starring in a new reality show called Married to Rock, along with AJ Celi, Etty Farrell and Josie Stevens. The show, which airs Sundays on E! at 10:30pm, follows the lives of the wives and girlfriends of rock royalty.
Susan was nice enough to talk to TV Grapevine about her modeling career, being a designer and of course her new show, which is sure to be a hit!
Tell me a little bit about yourself.
My background is that of being a high-fashion model (covers of VOGUE, to ad campaigns for Yves St. Laurent, Dolce& Gabbana, to
walking the catwalk for prestigious designers such as Chanel,Versace, Armani and Marc Jacobs to name a few...this was an education in and of itself- was able to direct this knowledge and experience into trying my luck on the other side of the fence -and now have celebrated being what is now my 11th year, as a designer that celebrities (from Stella McCartney to Heidi Klum to Venus Williams) adorn and is featured on various covers of Sport's Illustrated!
How did you get involved in modeling?
I was discovered in a NYC restaurant (The Quilted Giraffe) while dining with my Mom, and then catching the eye of of amazing
photographer Marco Glaviano while he was dining with the incredible Jodie Foster- and was via his introduction that night, then introduced to Eileen Ford of Ford Models...
Is it something you will pursue again?
Yes, and continue to do, every so often on "direct bookings" - it's in my blood, and I must say, I really appreciate and adore all that the fashion industry has to offer-- I have met some of my dearest friends
from the modeling world, so for this I am very thankful.
How did you get involved in designing swimwear?
Always had it in the back of my head (I grew up as a teenager on the beaches of La Jolla) I was the president of my sewing club in high school, I was an international supermodel, so basically I weaved together all those elements and I love that I have this creative outlet...
What kind of women is your line created for?
The line is geared for a fashion forward, edgy/sexy,designer wearing female-- and men who buy suits for their woman, oh and let's be an equal opportunity designer here- also transgenders(as I got to dress the beautiful model Isis, in "America's Next Top Model"- she was the first transgender on the show and let me tell you she rocked it)
Would you consider designing any other things? (purses, clothes, etc.)
Yes, would love to -- perhaps children's swimsuits (my daughters would love that :) develop more of a "lifestyle brand" ie., sundresses,beach bags, sunglasses, beach towels, sandals, etc...
Will you consider pursuing your correspondent career into a full time gig?( fox news channel clips we saw)
Yes, I love correspondent gigs, as well as hosting along the lines of my contemporaries ( Heidi Klum, Brooke Burke, Tyra Banks, Iman, Giuliana Rancic) is what I've been working on with my hosting coach for some time now...
Tell us more about your reality show?
It is was great fun to film! It a lighthearted look into the true love that really is there amongst us four couples in the rock n'roll world... Think it will be your favorite new show-- If you love "Sex and the City" and movies "Almost Famous and This is Spinal Tap" you will get it, and dig it.
What can we expect to see?
All I can say is if you want to laugh out loud, and be entertained "We will rock you!" tune in Sunday nights on E! at 10:30pst/9:30c
What made you decide to go into reality TV?
Let's face it, the majority of TV seems to have gone in a more organic and raw direction-- it is modern day/pop culture
press.. Plus it is a great vehicle for people to see more of my made in the USA, charity giving Susan Holmes Swimwear line + am working on a book about true love in the rock n' roll world- so it will be a great cross pollination for press -- I'm not only a Mom and a rock wife, but I'm also a Business woman always trying to stretch and grow.
What are some of your future goals?
To maintain being the strongest Mom and wife and I can be to my family, and of course, hosting more on TV soon- as well as an eco friendly collection on QVC would be fantastic!
What is something people will be surprised to learn about you?
You might look at me, and judge me as one way- but once you get to know me, you will see I am just a person, like many people- I am a hard working girl, who is blessed by two beautiful
daughters and an amazing and talented musician and man--who happens to be a rock legend..
What is something you want your fans to know about you?
That I hope to be an inspiring woman to viewers (as a Mother, Wife, International Supermodel,Designer Susan Holmes Swimwear),that contributes over 10% net back to charity, dog lover, friend, and comedian : )
