Sam Dobbins stars as Sam, an auto mechanic from Brooklyn, New York, in NBC’s drama series “Siberia.” Dobbins grew up in Queens, New York. Even though he’s lived in Los Angeles for a couple of decades he still considers himself a New Yorker and relates strongly to Neil Diamond’s lyrics to “I Am I Said” ... L.A.’s fine but it ain’t home. New York’s home but it ain’t mine no more!
Since age 6 he wanted to be an actor more than anything. Fear of failure kept the dream away until one day he took a leap into his future by taking class with Joanna Beckson (Meisner) along with fellow students Nick Di Paolo (of “The Nick & Artie Show” with Artie Lange), and Mike Sweeney (head writer for “Conan O’Brien”). After moving to L.A. he studied with John Kirby (brother of actor Bruno Kirby). It wasn’t until Dobbins signed with manager Cathryn Jaymes (who guided Quentin Tarantino’s early career) that Dobbins began to audition and work in TV and independent films. Cathryn remained Dobbins’s close friend and mentor until she tragically passed away.
Dobbins pressed on with his vision and worked on many hidden camera shows, developing his great listening and improv skills, which led to “Super Agent Dobbins Self,” which he created with David Egen. Dobbins and David partnered up with Emmy Award-winning producer Al Burton and shopped the show to various networks, landing at USA Network, who greenlit the show for a full season. Sadly, during a shift of USA’s executives, the green light turned red, so their show went on the shelf and Dobbins returned to developing new projects while continuing to audition for acting work.
